Module 2 - Berlin Skirt (version A).

A wide waistband with a six gored gathered skirt and a side zip.

Adjusted the waistband by making it 9cms smaller and it fits perfectly!

Made in crappy fabric I had in my stash but it turned out OK - will definitely wear it when the weather warms up.

The wide band doesn't quite suit my shape so I am going to give Version B a go which is has a narrower waist band along with a longer skirt.

My weekend.

Finished knitting my Ezra Vest last night whilst watching the Tour de France, so blocked it this morning.

Now sewing myself a needle case for my knitting needles as a test run for one I want to make a friend.

Tomorrow in the garden and maybe behind the sewing machine again.

Sewing 8 seat covers for 8 chairs that the creature in the background shredded on our new dining chairs.

Even though they were only vinyl, it's not the point.

We will eventually recover them in leather. Maybe.

We are then driving to Canberra as I have a podiatry appointment and will do a bit of shopping beforehand.

1. Amsterdam Dress

So I have finished my first garment from The Masterclass offered by the Tailor Academy. They are a family tailors in Austria that goes back generations.

I decided to gift myself their course to improve my sewing and as well as learning tailoring techniques.

What did I learn from this dress?

1. Three thread overlocking! How have I never been told about this on edges. I have always done 4 thread but this is so much better.

2. The use of iron-on edge tape - soooo much better than stay stitching - I will never go back to that.

3. How to adjust your pattern by using different sizes instead of using layered patterns. Yes it is a bit more paper as you have to cut out two sizes but it's a new skill!

4. It is OK to make mistakes - go back and fix them and don't dwell on them.

This fabric is stuff I had in my stash and I used it as the sacrificial lamb. It doesn't fit in some places but this was about the sewing (plus it isn't a style I wear).

Next the Berlin Skirt.

I have just discovered overlocking with 3 threads. It is so much nicer than 4 thread with none of the bulk.

Finally started on the Tailor Academy masterclass course - Unit 1, the Amsterdam dress.

Been awhile since I have been behind the machine!

My garlic has sprouted!

I planted these 2 weeks ago and have been away for a week and so far 8 out of 9 bulbs have sprouted.

I am beyond excited!

There are some walking onions in the background that I was gifted by a permie friend.

Now to mulch them.
